The Scobleizer and the Woz walked into a bar…

Filed under: Cool, Funny, Geek, Personal — Dave Persing @ 10:30 am

Yeah, still don’t have a punchline for that one.

Toby and I headed out to the University of Washington last night to watch Robert Scoble interview Steve Wozniak. The Woz is currently promoting his new book “iWoz”. The interview was great! Woz is a great speaker. He talks a little fast, but that’s okay.

Scoble did a great job in coaxing some great stories out of the Woz! My favorite is still how Woz got arrested and went to Juvee. A metronome, wires, and a school locker.

Oh how that would NOT fly these days.

All in all, a fantastic evening! Now, it’s off to see Alex (my brother) in Spokane for a little hanging out. Good times!

I know, I know…

Filed under: Cool, Geek — Dave Persing @ 5:14 pm

I’ve been ridiculously absent in the last three weeks.  Things have been…hectic.

Either way, I’ve got the distinct pleasure of going to the University of Washington tonight to see Robert Scoble interview Steve Wozniak.  About what?   I have no idea.

I was reading Scoble’s post about his month of October and noticed that he was going to be doing the aforementioned interview.  I posted a comment asking about the open status of the interview.  45 minutes later, Scoble responded with a comment about having some tickets available.

How cool is that?

I’ll give a recap of the interview either later tonight or on Sunday.  Carrie and I are going to be heading out to Spokane, WA to surprise my little brother (and by little I mean 19) at Gonzaga University.  Should be fun!

Have a great weekend!

The Xbox 360p.

Found this on Hack-a-day. Awesome mod!

The Xbox 360p.

On a side note, my apologies for being so amazingly negligent with posting. I’ve been pretty busy at work with rebuilding the builder. Finally, this morning, it’s working well.

More on the progress of the Shangri-la diet later this evening.

Shangri-La Day 3 and other geek stuff

Filed under: Geek, Shangri-La, Windows Vista — Dave Persing @ 7:23 pm

Day three.

Last night, I had pizza for dinner. Does preprocessed food give you a stomach ache on this diet? It’s happened twice thus far. First, when I had a burger from a place in Seattle. The second is making a take-and-bake pizza and eating it. Each time I’ve just felt, well, for lack of a better term…gross. It wasn’t appetising at all.

Today though, I went to Trader Joe’s and got some good stuff to have for lunches at the office. This is twofold! I don’t spend money on eating out every day, AND I can eat more healthy things! Why didn’t I do this before? I had some carrots, some celery with peanut butter, and a Promax bar. I was stuffed. I can’t remember a time in my life when I had that little and been totally full. It was great! I got some of those chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzels that I love so much. None were eaten. I didn’t want them at all. Amazing!

In other news, I’m currently downloading the Windows Vista RC1 image. I love my cable connection. 7 Megabits a second (yeah, you’re right Toby!). Glorious. I need a distraction from the company builder (the one that builds our software). I’ve been charged with revamping it to be able to support more options. Multiple Products and different source trees. Given the nature of the original builder, it wasn’t an easy task. Hopefully it’ll be done tomorrow.

Browzar isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Filed under: Geek, Security — Dave Persing @ 4:30 pm

I was surfing on Digg and came across this post. Scoble mentioned Browzar briefly yesterday.

I’m glad I didn’t download it! Heaven knows I don’t need to come in contact with MORE adware on a daily basis.

Personally, I use Firefox and the Stealther extension. It works splendidly!

And yes. I did have to add ALL those links in the two sentences, so don’t ask. 🙂

Have a great Labor Day weekend everyone!

UPDATE: Scoble pulled the link to Browzar. Good stuff!

Hello World!

Filed under: Geek, Personal — Dave Persing @ 11:46 am

This is my first post to a blog. Strange that I’ve been in the tech world for quite a while, but have been so far behind the times!

By way of introduction, my name is Dave Persing. I’m currently employed at a small software company in Bellevue, WA called TeamDirection as a software developer. We’re in the business of providing project management software for the layperson. There are other things we dabble in, but it’s beyond the scope of this post.

I’m the eldest of eight children (yeah, that’s 8 kids). I currently reside on Mercer Island. I have a wonderful girlfriend and awesome friends. Life is good!

Veritas vos liberabit literally means “the Truth shall set you free”. It’s a Latin phrase that I’ve admired ever since I started learning Latin in the sixth grade. And yes, that is a “T” not a “t”.
The blog is going to be about whatever I have to say. Be it geek-related, personal experiences, or anything else that strikes my fancy, it will be here. Mostly, the blog is for a personal record of things accomplished and observed.

Bear with me as I try to find the voice and style of the blog. I’m sure it will take some failures to get things right!
