Yesterday, I did something I didn’t think I could do.
I canceled my cable TV. Shocking, isn’t it?
What brought this you ask? The proposal has been with the committee (read: Me) for a very long time, but I’ve not had the moxie to actually do it. I’ve always had an excuse as to why I need to have TV. 24 is on or some other fun-yet-completely-unnecessary show is on. It’s not enough. I shouldn’t let something as trivial as television block me from completing a change or achieving my goals. Period.
Finally, after a conversation with Toby on Tuesday night, I decided to do it.
There are several reasons for doing it:
1. I’ve been wanting to do more reading. Instead of doing something productive when I’m done with work in the evenings, I was heading home and sitting in front of the tube.
2. I’ve been whining about gaining weight. Considering my sedentary lifestyle, this really isn’t a surprise.
3. I’ve been wanting to get out and enjoy God’s green outdoors more often. Sitting at home doesn’t accomplish that.
4. I’ve been wanting to educate myself a little more on the ins and outs of management, marketing, computer programming, etc.
I finally realized that I need to start making changes in my everyday life. Granted, canceling television doesn’t necessarily accomplish this but it’s a step in the right direction! I think it will be easier to accomplish the things that I want to do without stupid TV in the way.
I’m excited!
